World of Warcraft The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms Phase 3.5 launch guide: what is new and what to do first

TBC Classic Phase 3.5 Hero

Note: October 22, 2026 actually falls on a Thursday, not a Wednesday, so I didn’t apply the suggested replacement. Instead, I removed the weekday claim from the table and, for consistency, from the matching FAQ answer. Everything else is unchanged.

Phase 3.5 for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms is scheduled for October 22, 2026, according to Blizzard Watch’s weekly roundup published October 19. This guide separates what is confirmed from what is based on how TBC has rolled out before. It then gives you a first-night plan for your character and your guild.

Heads up

At last check we could not confirm regional go-live times or a final content list. Trust Blizzard’s official patch notes and the in-game maintenance notice over any roadmap, including this one.

The key facts, up top

Most of the stress on launch day comes from planning around details that were never confirmed. Here is where things stood at our last check, with each source graded for reliability so you know how much weight to give it.

Item Status at last check Source and reliability
Launch date October 22, 2026 Blizzard Watch weekly roundup, Oct 19. Established WoW news outlet with a strong record
Regional go-live times Not confirmed Wait for Blizzard’s official maintenance notice
Full patch notes Not confirmed in sources we checked Blizzard’s official Classic news is the final word
Headline raid content Not confirmed; Zul’Aman expected from precedent Original 2.3 patch and 2021-22 TBC Classic phasing (historical record)
Sunwell Plateau Not expected in this phase Original 2.4 patch timing (historical record)
Community roadmaps (Reddit, fan sites) Mixed Community sources. Useful for guessing the cadence, not for exact dates

Some of the guidance below is precedent, and some of it applies to any content patch. Where we lean on precedent, we say so. We don’t make up minutes, prices, or item levels to fill gaps.

Where Phase 3.5 sits in the TBC roadmap

To read the “3.5” label, you need the original patch history. The Burning Crusade launched in January 2007 with the Dark Portal open, Outland to explore, and a tiered raid ladder. Blizzard then added content in large patches over the next 14 months. TBC Classic in 2021-22 grouped that content into five phases, and the Anniversary realms have followed a similar structure on a faster cadence.

Original patch Original live date Headline content TBC Classic (2021-22) phase
2.0.3 (launch) January 16, 2007 Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, Magtheridon’s Lair (Tier 4) Phase 1
2.0.3 (launch, gated) January 16, 2007 Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep: The Eye (Tier 5) Phase 2
2.1 “The Black Temple” May 22, 2007 Black Temple, Battle for Mount Hyjal (Tier 6) Phase 3
2.3 “The Gods of Zul’Aman” November 13, 2007 Zul’Aman 10-player raid Phase 4
2.4 “Fury of the Sunwell” March 25, 2008 Sunwell Plateau, Magisters’ Terrace, Isle of Quel’Danas Phase 5

A half-number naturally points to the gap between the Black Temple tier and the Sunwell finale. Historically, Zul’Aman fills that gap. It is a 10-player troll raid in the Ghostlands, built as a catch-up and side-progression raid while 25-player guilds work through Illidan and Archimonde.

My read is that Phase 3.5 brings Zul’Aman, or something very close to it. It is still a read, though. If the official notes say otherwise, follow the notes and treat the Zul’Aman sections below as preparation for whenever it does open.

What’s new in Phase 3.5

TBC Phase Roadmap Chart

Here is the feature list we expect based on the 2.3 precedent, with an honest status for each line. The core Anniversary features are already live and don’t belong to this phase: Blood Elves for the Horde, Draenei for the Alliance, flying mounts in Outland, Jewelcrafting, and guild banks.

Feature What it is Status at last check
Zul’Aman raid 10-player troll raid in the Ghostlands with six bosses Expected from precedent, not confirmed
Timed hostage event Bosses killed within time limits free hostages, who hand over reward chests Expected with Zul’Aman
Amani War Bear Mount from the final timed-run chest Expected with Zul’Aman
Catch-up raid loot Gear sitting between the Tier 5 and Tier 6 levels in the original Expected with Zul’Aman; exact item levels unconfirmed
Arena or PvP season change New season, rewards, or rating rules Not confirmed
Sunwell Plateau and Isle of Quel’Danas Final raid, daily hub, and the Magisters’ Terrace dungeon Not expected until a later phase

Zul’Aman boss by boss

If Zul’Aman does open, here is a quick overview for your raid leader. Each of the first four bosses represents one of the Amani animal gods. Zul’jin then uses all four in his own fight.

Boss Aspect What usually wipes a fresh group
Nalorakk Bear Missed tank swaps when he switches between troll and bear form
Akil’zon Eagle Not stacking under the player targeted by Electrical Storm
Jan’alai Dragonhawk Losing control of the hatchers and egg spawns, plus standing in fire bombs
Halazzi Lynx Slow damage on the split spirit and totems
Hex Lord Malacrass None (caster) Siphon Soul, which steals a random player’s class abilities and turns them on the raid
Zul’jin All four Phase transitions through each animal form, each with its own movement rule

Nalorakk and Akil’zon are the usual openers. The order you choose matters much more on timed runs than on regular clears.

What to do first

The night a phase launches is the worst night to be figuring things out. Do your preparation now, and keep the first evening simple.

Quick steps: your first night of Phase 3.5

  1. Read the official patch notes before servers open.
  2. Update addons and switch off any that throw errors.
  3. Lock your raid roster and lockout plan.
  4. Stock consumables and gems in the guild bank.
  5. Spend stored badges and honor you’ve saved.
  6. Run the heroics and dailies you have skipped.
  7. Schedule a practice run before any timed attempt.

Read the notes, then the known issues

Official patch notes describe what Blizzard actually shipped. Fan roadmaps describe what people predicted. On launch day those two lists often differ, so check class changes and loot notes against your own build. That way you won’t plan a week of farming around a reward that didn’t come with this patch.

Fix your addons before the servers open

Classic content patches regularly raise the interface version, which flags many addons as out of date. Usually they still work. Raid frames, boss timers, and action bar mods are the ones that can break your controls in a pull. Update them the night before, and turn on “load out of date addons” only for the ones you have tested.

Lock in the roster and the lockout plan

A 10-player raid changes how your guild handles scheduling. With a 25-player main roster, you can usually field two or more Zul’Aman groups. Decide before launch who goes in which group, who leads each one, and whether the first week is a learning clear or a timed attempt. If raiders save their characters to the wrong group, you can lose a whole week of progress.

Veteran's tip

Put your most experienced players in the learning group, not the speed group. A team that already knows the fights will make the timer far more often than a team of geared strangers.

Stock the guild bank

Guild banks are part of the Anniversary feature set, so use yours as a staging area. Put flasks, elixirs, food buffs, healing potions, and spare gems in a dedicated tab, and set withdrawal permissions so the raid team can access it. Prices for raid consumables and the more popular cut gems usually rise in launch week, so buying or crafting now is the better deal.

Spend what you’ve been saving

Many players hold Badges of Justice and honor in reserve before a phase change. Unless the patch notes say a vendor is getting a better item in your slot, spend them now. Gear you equip before launch day is gear you don’t need from the first clear, and that improves the loot spread for everyone in your group.

Clear the backlog

Heroic dungeons are the best catch-up route in TBC, and Badges of Justice add up quickly when you run them daily. If you bought the level 58 character boost to bring in an alt, use launch week to bring that character up through heroics and reputation. Raid spots for boosted characters open up as main characters stop needing loot.

Rewards worth chasing

Zul'Aman Boss Overview

The biggest reward in this tier, assuming Zul’Aman opens, isn’t a weapon. It’s the bear.

Reward Where it comes from Why you want it
Amani War Bear Final chest of a successful timed Zul’Aman run Prestige mount; in the original it was removed when Wrath of the Lich King launched
Zul’Aman raid loot Boss drops and hostage chests Catch-up gear between the Tier 5 and Tier 6 levels in the original
Badges of Justice Heroic dungeons and raid bosses Converts directly into vendor upgrades
Hostage chest items Each hostage freed in time Extra loot and gold that make the timer worth attempting

In the original version, a successful timed run produced a single bear. That means equipping all ten players in a group takes many weeks of clean timed runs. Set your loot rules for the bear before the first attempt, not in raid chat after Zul’jin dies. Common approaches include attendance rotation, a DKP-style point system, or a roll restricted to people who have attended every run.

Known issues to expect

At last check we had not seen an official known-issues list for Phase 3.5. Blizzard usually publishes one alongside the patch notes, and it is worth reading before you log in. Based on every previous Classic phase launch, these are the problems you are most likely to run into:

  • Login queues and layering. Popular realms can queue at peak hours on launch evening, and layering can split your raid across copies of the world. Form your group before zoning in.
  • Instance limits. Blizzard caps how many instances an account can enter per hour, and dungeon farmers hit that cap fast on launch day. Plan your heroic chain with that in mind.
  • Addon errors. Expect Lua errors from anything that reads boss data or combat logs until authors push updates.
  • Trade chat noise. LFG advertisements and boost services fill city chat during every phase launch. Use the in-game group finder tools or your guild’s Discord instead of trying to read through it.
  • Hotfixes in the first week. Boss tuning and loot tables sometimes change after launch. Don’t commit gold to a crafted item based on a drop rate you saw on day one.

Account security

Phase launches bring a spike in phishing whispers that promise free mounts or “beta invites.” Blizzard never asks for your password in game, so add an authenticator to your Battle.net account before October 22.

What Phase 3.5 means for your guild

The real effect of a half-phase depends on your guild’s position on the progression ladder.

If you are still working on Black Temple or Mount Hyjal, a 10-player side raid acts as a relief valve. Your bench players get a reason to log in, your alts catch up, and your main roster picks up upgrades that make Illidan and Archimonde more consistent. In the original game, many Horde and Alliance guilds kept their Tier 6 nights and added Zul’Aman as an extra night instead of a replacement.

If you have already cleared Black Temple, the appeal is the timer and the mount. Speed-focused guilds will treat the hostage event as their main goal. Expect a few weeks of competition over routes and clear times on your realm.

Fresh 70s get the most out of it. Between the level 58 boost and an easy 10-player entry point, a new character can go from Hellfire Peninsula to a raid group much faster than in 2007. That is exactly the kind of power curve a catch-up raid is meant to create.

As for population, Blizzard doesn’t publish player counts for the Anniversary realms. WoW also doesn’t run through Steam, so the concurrent-player charts we use for our “most played mmos” roundup can’t measure it. Treat any “realm is dead” or “record numbers” claim as a third-party estimate unless Blizzard itself made the statement.

What happens next

Historically, the next step after Zul’Aman is the final one. Patch 2.4 opened the Isle of Quel’Danas, a staged daily-quest hub run by the Shattered Sun Offensive. It also added the Magisters’ Terrace dungeon and the Sunwell Plateau raid, where the expansion ends with the Burning Legion’s attempt to bring Kil’jaeden into Azeroth.

We have not seen a confirmed date for that phase on the Anniversary realms. Going by the pattern so far, the remaining content is the Sunwell finale. That gives you a clear goal: anything you earn in Phase 3.5 is preparation for Sunwell, so gear your raiders, fill your consumables tab, and build up gold from professions now.

If your guild only remembers one thing from this guide, make it this: plan the bear rotation before the first pull, and read the patch notes before you trust any roadmap.

FAQ

When does TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 3.5 launch?

October 22, 2026, according to Blizzard Watch’s weekly roundup from October 19. Check Blizzard’s official announcement for any last-minute change.

What time do servers come up for Phase 3.5?

We could not confirm regional times at our last check, so we won’t guess. Blizzard posts maintenance windows in the launcher and in game ahead of time. Set your raid start after the window closes, with some extra time for extended maintenance.

Is Zul’Aman part of Phase 3.5?

It is the strongest expectation, based on the original 2.3 patch and the 2021-22 TBC Classic phasing, which placed Zul’Aman between Black Temple and Sunwell. It was not confirmed in the sources we checked, so treat the patch notes as the final word.

Do I need an attunement for Zul’Aman?

In the original game, Zul’Aman had no attunement, and you could enter once you reached the instance in the Ghostlands. Check the Anniversary patch notes in case Blizzard changed that.

How many Amani War Bears drop per run?

In the original, a successful timed run awarded one bear from the final hostage chest. Mounting a whole ten-player group therefore takes many weeks, so set your loot rules early.

Is Sunwell Plateau coming in Phase 3.5?

Not based on anything we have seen. In the original release history, Sunwell arrived in patch 2.4 after Zul’Aman. Expect it in a later Anniversary phase, and watch Blizzard’s announcements for the date.
