Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2025

This page explains what information The MMO Hammer (eqhammer.com) collects when you visit, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We are a small, independent MMORPG website, so the answer is simpler than on most sites. We collect very little, and we never sell your personal data.

Who we are

The MMO Hammer is an independent content website covering MMORPGs: news, guides, opinion and reference material. Throughout this policy, “we”, “us” and “this site” mean The MMO Hammer at eqhammer.com.

You can read everything on this site without creating an account. We do not run user registrations, forums or paid memberships.

Information collected automatically

Server logs

Like nearly every website, this site runs on web servers that keep standard access logs. When your browser requests a page, the server may record:

  • Your IP address
  • The date and time of the request
  • The page or file requested
  • The referring page, if your browser sends one
  • Your browser type and operating system (the “user agent”)
  • Whether the request succeeded or produced an error

We use these logs to keep the site running, fix broken pages, understand load on the server, and detect abuse such as spam bots or attacks. We do not use server logs to build profiles of individual readers.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. This site may use a few types:

  • Essential cookies. These keep the site working properly, for example by remembering a display preference or protecting against malicious traffic. They do not track you across other sites.
  • Analytics cookies. If we use an analytics service, it may set cookies to count visits, see which pages are popular, and learn roughly how readers find us. We look at this information in aggregate, such as “this guide had more visits this week”, not at individual people.
  • Advertising cookies. If this site shows ads, advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and measure performance. Some of these partners may show ads based on your interests, using data they collect across many websites.

Third-party analytics and advertising providers handle data under their own privacy policies. We don’t control the cookies they set, but we choose partners that offer opt-out options, and where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before non-essential cookies load.

Embedded content from other sites

Some pages include content hosted elsewhere, such as YouTube videos, Twitch streams, or posts from social platforms like X, Reddit or Bluesky. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other site directly.

That means the provider can:

  • Collect data about you
  • Set its own cookies
  • Track your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you are logged in to that service

We have no control over what these platforms collect. Their own privacy policies apply. If you want to avoid this, you can log out of those services before browsing, or use your browser’s privacy settings to block third-party content.

Tools that run in your browser

Some features on this site, such as calculators, planners or other interactive tools, run entirely in your browser where we say so. When a tool is described this way, the information you type into it is processed on your own device and is not sent to our servers.

Some of these tools may save your inputs in your browser’s local storage, so your settings are still there when you come back. That data stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for eqhammer.com.

Information you choose to send us

If you contact us directly, we receive whatever you include in your message, such as your name, email address and the content of your note. We use this only to read and reply to you. We don’t add you to mailing lists or share your message with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How we use information

We use the limited information we collect to:

  • Run, maintain and secure the site
  • Fix errors and improve pages that aren’t working well
  • Understand which content readers find useful, in aggregate
  • Show advertising, where ads appear, to help fund the site
  • Respond to messages you send us

We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

We do not sell your personal data

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data to anyone. We share data only with service providers that help run the site (for example hosting, analytics or advertising partners), and only as needed for them to provide that service. We may also disclose information if we are legally required to.

How long we keep data

We keep data only as long as it serves a clear purpose:

Type of data How long it is kept
Server logs A limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or rotated out
Analytics data Kept in aggregate form; retention follows the analytics provider’s settings
Advertising cookies Set and expire according to each partner’s policy
Messages you send us As long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then deleted when no longer needed
Browser-based tool data Stays on your device until you clear it

Your rights and choices

You have real control over your data, and you don’t need to give a reason to use it.

You can ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal data, if any, we hold about you
  • Correct information that is wrong
  • Delete your personal data
  • Stop using your data for a particular purpose

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR in the European Union and United Kingdom or state laws in the United States, including the CCPA in California, may give you additional rights. We will honour valid requests under the laws that apply to you.

Because we collect so little and don’t run user accounts, we often won’t be able to link server logs or analytics data to a specific person. If that is the case, we’ll tell you plainly.

You can also act on your own:

  • Block or delete cookies through your browser settings
  • Use your browser’s private or incognito mode
  • Use the opt-out tools provided by analytics and advertising companies
  • Turn on “Global Privacy Control” or similar signals in browsers that support them

Blocking essential cookies may cause parts of the site to work less smoothly, but you will still be able to read our content.

Children’s privacy

This site is written for a general audience interested in online games. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the site and the limited data we hold, including serving pages over an encrypted HTTPS connection. No website can promise perfect security, but we keep what we collect to a minimum, which limits the risk in the first place.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when we add new features, change partners, or when the law changes. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will make it clear on the site.

Contact us

If you have a question about this policy or want to make a request about your data, please reach out through the contact page on this site. We read every message and will reply as soon as we reasonably can.
