The MMO Hammer is an independent MMORPG hub covering every MMO worth playing, from long-running giants to this week’s launches. We publish guides, news, launch-day walkthroughs, best-MMO lists and a live player-count tracker, all written for people who actually log in and play.
What We Cover
We don’t focus on a single game. The site covers the whole genre, including:
- World of Warcraft: retail expansions, Classic versions and everything in between
- Final Fantasy XIV: patches, jobs, story progression and endgame content
- Old School RuneScape: skilling, questing, bossing and updates
- Guild Wars 2: expansions, builds and the systems that make it unusual among MMOs
- The Elder Scrolls Online: chapters, classes and seasonal content
- Throne and Liberty: progression, combat and launch-era changes
- Lost Ark: raids, characters and progression systems
That list keeps growing. When a new MMO launches or an older one gets a major revival, we add it to our coverage.
Guides
Our guides are built to answer the question you have right now. That might be how to level a new class, which build to run at endgame, or how a confusing system actually works. We aim for clear steps, current information and no padding before the answer.
MMOs change constantly. Patches rework classes, expansions reset gear and economies shift overnight. We update guides when the game changes, and we would rather revise a page than leave outdated advice sitting at the top of search results.
Launch-Day Coverage
The first days of a new MMO or expansion are chaotic. Queues pile up, servers buckle, and everyone is trying to figure out the same things at once. Our launch-day guides target that window: what to do first, what to skip, and how to avoid the mistakes that cost new players hours.
Best-MMO Lists
Picking a new MMO is a real time commitment. Our best-MMO lists are written to help you choose a game that fits how you like to play, with honest notes on what each game does well and where it falls short. We revisit these lists as games grow, decline or launch, because a ranking from a year ago may not reflect the state of the genre today.
The MMO Player-Count Tracker
How many people are playing a given MMO is one of the most common questions in the genre, and one of the hardest to answer. Most publishers don’t release full player numbers, and the figures that do circulate are often a mix of official data, partial platform stats and guesswork.
Our live player-count tracker gives you a single place to check how MMOs are doing. We’re clear about what the numbers represent, and we treat population figures as indicators rather than gospel. Use the tracker to spot trends, compare games and see which worlds are busy before you commit to one.
Our Approach to News
We report on announcements, patches, launches, shutdowns and the events that shape the MMO space. When a story comes from rumors or leaks, we say so plainly and tell you how reliable the source is. An official announcement, a proven reporter and an anonymous post with a mixed history are not the same thing, and we don’t present them as if they were.
Independent and Unaffiliated
The MMO Hammer is an independent site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any game publisher or developer, including the companies behind the games we cover. All game names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Our independence means our coverage reflects what we think is useful and accurate for players. If a game has problems, we’ll say so.
Not Ten Ton Hammer
We get asked about this, so here’s the short answer: The MMO Hammer is not the old Ten Ton Hammer website. We share part of a name and a love of MMOs, but we are a separate, new project with no connection to that site or the people who ran it.
Who writes here
The MMO Hammer’s guides, lists and tracker reports are written by a small team, and our standards editor fact-checks every article before it goes live.
Garrett Holloway
Garrett covers World of Warcraft, classic MMOs and launch guides, from raid walkthroughs to release times for new phases and expansions. He likes the logistics of launch week as much as the raids that come after it. Read Garrett’s articles
Yuki Tanabe
Yuki writes about Final Fantasy XIV and the wider MMORPG scene, including new MMOs and lists of the best ones to play. She enjoys the side systems most players skip, like glamour, housing and crafting. Read Yuki’s articles
Fenella Marsh
Fenella covers RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, MMO player counts and general MMO guides. She follows population numbers over time and explains what they can and cannot tell you about a game’s health. Read Fenella’s articles
Oskar Brandvold, Standards Editor
Oskar is The MMO Hammer’s standards editor. Every article goes through his fact-check pass before it is published: patch dates, launch times, boss mechanics, player counts and prices are checked against official sources and the reporting we cite, and anything unconfirmed is labeled or removed.
A New Site, Built for Players
The MMO Hammer is new, and we’re building it the way we’d want an MMO site to work: fast answers, current information, honest opinions and coverage that spans the whole genre instead of a single game. We’ll keep expanding our guides, refining the tracker and covering new launches as they arrive.
Thanks for stopping by. Grab a guide, check the player counts, and we’ll see you in-game.
